"Hannah Do It"

"I did it" or "I do it"

Well I am sure that if you are a parent you have heard these words uttered from you child/children before. On or around the age of two, they seem to decide that no parental help is needed to accomplish any task. We went through this with Zoe BUT Hannah, being the more headstrong child, seems to be a more formidable challenge. She is like me in lots of ways and that applies to the 'get it done' ideal that I hold for myself. This would be great...or should I say will be great in a few years when she is older...except when she can't seem to do it or is not allowed to do it. When this happens, mass break down occurs...total 'flip outage'...you know what I mean!!?? I feel sure that some of the measurements on the Richtor scale have been 'Hannahisms'. Really, I do understand her enthusiasm for getting it done and I know that I will appreciate her ability to do so in the future but it has made for some interesting spectrum emotions here at the O'Neil household! Ready or not...here she comes!

Gotta love that little Hannah Bear of ours!

Zoe's first bowling party

The weather was ugly and it was bitterly cold but that could not dampen Zoe's spirits as she got to go to her first bowling party Saturday. She has never bowled before and I have to say that I was a bit nervous because of the 'grace' she seemed to inherit from my side of the family. I could see her dropping the ball on her foot or throwing it down the isle and her along with it....you know how parents can imagine....anyway, she bowled wonderfully and really seemed to enjoy it! It was a cute little party too! Her friend Christopher turned six and was so excited that she came! His theme was Spiderman in case you could not tell! Zoe left with a full tummy, goody bag, and new fun pastime. We will definitely be bowling again soon!

Floor Time

Each one of our children had something that we finally had to address. For Zoe it was the Binky. Hannah, potty training...she is afraid of the "big potty".(this is still a work in progress...ideas welcome) Now, we are finally having to do it with Kayci. She never did like to be on her stomach. When we'd put her on her stomach, she'd flip over so she never got appropriate 'floor time' to learn to crawl. She'd always lie on her back or sit and play. She has now decided that she does not like to lie on her back on the floor so we can finally have her practice her skills for crawling. She is behind to say the least...those arm muscles wiggle as she tries to support her weight. Coincidentally she is also our child that doesn't like to eat!(she's half Bennett too!!)

Well, as I was having her 'practice'...which means lying and screaming...I got to thinking about how we all dislike our own 'floor time'. It is different for each of us. For some it's work, for others exercise or eating right. My mother in law deals with a chronic illness, diabetes, which requires constant discipline...she never complains about it even though it keeps her from enjoying some foods she loves and has given her health issues to deal with. She has taken her floor time and learned accordingly. She is an inspiration to many!

Well, I am forced to see two fundamental truths in this situation... we ALL need floor time AND we WILL get through it...one way or the other!!

Here's to crawling soon.

Stinky Buckeye Tree

Here is a link to Wikipedia showing a picture of a buckeye fruit and tree. The Ohio Buckeye tree is also referred to as a “Stinking Buckeye”, so it is technically correct to call the Ohio State Buckeyes, “Stinking Buckeyes”. Apparently Ohio Buckeye trees just stink, literally.

Let's hope that label continues during tonight's game!! Geaux Tigers!!!

The Mark Chronicles....Chapter One

I know that I have written about my husband in a previous blog...still he continues to amaze me. He is like a river...shaping his surroundings...to a point...then is guided by God’s will for him and our lives. He is gentle, strong, quiet and a leading guide into what God has planned me to be for him and our children.
Never a more kind man have I met or a more gentle soul have I been blessed with. I am so thankful to have this wonderful man in my life and soul.
Our children are so wonderfully blessed to have him as a father. A father is a force who can be humble or harsh, bitter or kind...to have been blessed with Mark is such a special treat for Zoe, Hannah & Kayci. He lights up their lives just as he lights up their eyes! They are so excited at the end of each day when he walks through the door. Each one blesses him in a special way and I never get tired of watching the interaction…….to be continued…….

Lemonade...well it's all a matter of perspective

WOW!! It has been one of those weeks for our family! It started off with Kayci being admitted to the hospital and ended with me pulling yet another muscle in my leg. I had injured my leg last week and in compensating for that injury, injured the other leg. I am on the treadmill though working on rehab so that I can continue my regular workouts ASAP!!

Well like I have said before, If we did not have days, weeks like this, we would not appreciate the good lives that we have! Sometimes you just have to sit back, relax, and drink the lemonade.

All in all, the new year has started out well and I look forward to it and all the exciting birthdays, anniversaries, milestones, and unexpected opportunities it will bring with each new day!
